                                                                                                            Picture
We have had a great week completing our Try a Tri program with amazing time trial and Brooks Tri results.  After a 10 week training program, everyone did huge PBs for all 3 disciplines this week, with the biggest % improvement being from Julie Haigh knocking off 1min 50secs from her 2km run TT - I wish we could all do PBs like that.
The group finished off a successful and amazingly fun program with the Gatorade and Brooks race this weekend.  Sam Breguet did the Gatorade again and did a great job completing her first sprint distance race (with a swim – and a choppy one at that) and Mark, Eliza and Julie doing the Brooks race, scoring some pretty slick times.  Daniel and Larnie weren’t able to race but finished off their week with some great time trial results.  Daniel showed his potential as a triathlete with 2 vomits after the run time trial- that’s the way Dan!

Thanks guys for making the 10 weeks so much fun, you were a great group to coach.  I look forward to seeing you all in future training sessions.

Happy Training and have a great xmas - Tameka

                                                                                                            Hi everyone.

Firstly i must congratulate everyone for getting to the end of our first Try a Tri program.  Of course above is some of the lucky crew to be snapped for a photo.

I have a massive apology to make. I have lost your bike TT results! I'm so sorry but it was lost somewhere in our car last weekend that had everything from food to baby poo to a kayak in it (or kayak on it) for the race down at Lorne last weekend. So I don't remember your times but you all did PBs and some of you big ones so that's the main thing to know - that you all made improvements on the bike.

Well done again everyone on last nights results. It was so exciting to see you all do so well and make so much improvement. I don't really want to single anyone out, but Jules' PB needs a big mention. She dropped nearly 2 mins off her time. That's a massive 1min per kilometre in 10 weeks- AMAZING. We'll no doubt see this translate to a great performance on Sunday in the Brooks race.

I have attached your results for the swim and run timetrials and the pic of us at the track last night. Daniel, there's a distinct lack of you in the TT results and photo - stick around buddy. I'm sure your new flash wheels will keep you motivated though.

Good luck on the weekend everyone and I'll see you there. (Hoping for better weather this time) Tam

Welcome to all our new athletes who either started correspondence programming this week or have just started the Try a Tri beginner program in Geelong, which goes for 10 weeks.

The Try-a-Tri program kicked off last Saturday morning in the sun at Eastern Beach in Geelong.  We had 7 contenders who were all eager to kick off their triathlon aspirations.  Some have backgrounds in other sports and some have dabbled in some of the triathlon legs and some are ‘newbies’, but all are hoping to finish a Brooks or Gatorade triathlon by Christmas.

So here starts their triathlon journeys, with three training sessions scheduled each week for 10 weeks.  Good luck to everyone in this group

We are now back into some good training and with good numbers at training as well.  Thanks to Bo, Paul and Jarrod for taking over my sessions whilst i had a well earned holiday in Thailand as well (gosh i needed that :).  Attached is a photo of Kellie and Mary Anne from the Lorne Training Camp.  Both girls reportedly did very very well and both extended themselves well past where they thought they might be.  Im proud of them both for putting up there had to have a go, as it can be a bit daunting given some of the athletes that attend.   Im proud of you all so far for getting through the winter chill and putting in some hard work.  It will pay off in a big way come season time.

                                                                                                            Good Training

Back into full swing and i hope everyone is enjoying their training.  Were coming into some colder whether so make sure you all look after yourselves.  Small amounts of consistent training at this time of the year is the key to maintaining and improving so try and get along to the group sessions as much as possible.  They are your best form of improvement, and the perfect time to get some swim, bike or run technique work done with the coach watching.  We have a few new ladies and it is great to see the squad growing all the time.  Below i have included an outline of our up-coming group sessions and stay tunes also for a little training camp / weekend away.  Now that will be some fun.  Please if anyone has anyone questions, dont hesitate to ask.

Last week saw us get through our first full week of training and congratulations to everyone who came along to the sessions and got through it. Especially the wet, cold ride on Saturday which made many of us realise that we need to invest in some good winter and wet weather gear!!

Welcome and well done to Kellie who is new to the group and was the only one to turn up to training on Friday night to do the 3km TT at Landy field. Well done to all the others who have also gone and done their time trials over the weekend.

The first Saturday saw the introduction of a core strength training session with Bo at Sacred heart. Those who were there enjoyed it very much and got a lot out of it. I hear everyones abs were a little sore the next day. Thanks to Bo for running the session and for his knowledge and input.

Also thanks to Jarrod for his stroke correction input at swimming, I know that those who worked with Jarrod got a lot out of it.

Keep an eye for more news and updates over the coming weeks.

                                                                                                            Hi Ladies,

Hope you are all well. As most of you are aware, the Triathlon season is nearing an end and boy has it gone quick. I hope that you have all enjoyed the training and gained many skills to help with your future in triathlon. You have all improved so much and it’s great to have such a great bunch of ladies to coach. As you know this is my first season as a coach and I have very much enjoyed it and I thank you all for all the hard work that you all put into training.

Over April everyone will have a break from training and we will commence training again at the beginning of May. I am in the process of planning for next season so if anyone has any input or idea’s please let me know

The winter months are tough to train through but I can’t stress enough the importance of training right through. Winter is a good time of year to put in all the hard work to get yourself flying for when the triathlon season begins again at the end of the year. There is also a series of Duathlons (run/ride/run) over winter to help keep you motivated.

                                                                                                            RESULTS

This weeks ‘ATHLETE OF THE WEEK’ goes to Leanne McPherson. Mary Ann joined the group about a month ago is one just a great team person to have around. She gives 110% at every single session and just goes and goes. Not only does Mary Ann work hard, she juggles her training around a massive ‘Brady Bunch’ ha ha. Leanne is always encouraging and supporting everyone in the squad. Well done Leanne. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!

                                                                                                            OUR SQUADS TRAINING ROUTINE

As from next week I have decided to make a few changes to our training sessions. Due to the fact that everyone can quite comfortably complete at least a 30km ride I have decided to change our ride session to a Saturday as Thursday nights we are a little time restricted and its hard to fit in a longer ride.  We all need to do a bit more work on our swimming so Thursdays will now be a swim squad session at Kardinia Pool for the remainder of the season. We have the pool booked from 5.45pm-6.45pm so please be in the pool and ready to swim at 5.45pm sharp. I’ve made it 15mins later than our usual session as we seem to struggle to get started by 5.30 with our sessions so please try and make it on time. Tuesdays run session will now be held at Landy Field on Tuesdays. We wont necessarily be using the track every week to train on, we will most likely go for a run around the river. Please arrive at 5.30pm for a 5.35 especially if we are running around the river. Saturdays will now go as follows-: Group ride meeting at Torquay front beach, opposite to Growlers restaurant at 9.30am sharp, please arrive at 9.20 to be ready to leave at 9.30. We will follow this ride with an open water swim at Torquay also at 11.30am so please bring plenty of food and drink with you.

I also have a few more mini duathlons, aquathlons and triathlons planned for training over the next few weeks also. I will give you plenty of notice though. We will just see what we can fit around everyones planned races

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE FOR SUNDAYS TRIATHLON AT PORTARLINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                                                                                            Hi Ladies,

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and hope that Santa bought you lots of pressies!!!! I’m very sorry for my lack of correspondence over the Christmas period. Unfortunately I didn’t have any internet access when I was away and had barely any phone coverage either. Anway I’m back on board and am very excited about starting the new year!!!!!!!!!

                                                                                                            ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

This weeks ‘ATHLETE OF THE WEEK’ goes to Mary-Ann. Mary Ann joined the group about a month ago is one of the most hard working and committed people that I’ve ever met. She gives 110% at every single session. Not only does Mary Ann work hard, she juggles her training around a young family and lives in Colac!!! Now that’s dedication to get to all our training sessions. Mary’s dedication has extended to her entering the entire Brooks triathlon series and is also competing in the Masters games triathlon which is being held in Geelong this year in  February. Keep up the fantastic work Mary!!!!!!!!! Another special mention for Mary Ann for her fantastic performance at the 5km Rip to River event on Sunday. Mary Ann ran a very impressive 24min 40 secs and finished 5th in her age group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                                                                                            RACE RESULTS

First I’ll start with Kristy who after a tough running session on Tuesday night went on to compete in the Dawn busters 5.5km fun run on Wednesday morning and ran a very impressive time of 29.30!!!!!!!!! Knocking almost 6 minutes off her time at the Ring road fun run a few weeks back. Great stuff Kristy!!!!

Now I’ll get to the Rip to River Fun run…

We had myself, Liz, Mary Ann, Leanne and Kristy head down to Ocean Grove to tackle the 5km Rip to River Fun run while down the other end of the beach Karen decided to take on the 10km Fun run.

What a perfect day for a fun run. Also, please put this date in your diaries... Sunday 4th of January..... This is the date of the annual ‘Rip to River Fun run’ which is a beach run starting at Point Lonsdale and finishes at Ocean Grove main beach. It is usually a 10k run event but this is the first year that they have added in a 5km event. This would be a great local race for everyone and I have decided to make this compulsory for our group as a training day!!!!!!!!! I’ll get the entry forms to you all shortly.

Also, I would like you all to have a serious think about what races you are going to do this season so I can start to plan your training and the group training sessions around this... If you could all write a list of what you plan to do and get it to me by the end of next week that would be great.

Anyway thats about it from my end. Please keep up with the training feedback. I expect a weekly report from you all whether it is verbal or an email so I can keep an eye on how you are going and if you are fitting everything in.

                                                                                                            Happy Training.

                                                                                                            Cheers
